FOOL'S GOLD
Happy
April Fool's Day! Welcome to the
official website for all things
XBAND Guild, and the second
devpost for this fool's errand.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, and I
keep chasing it. Last month essentially
saw the "soft-release" of Phantasy Star
Online 2 for XBOX One in the guise of an
"open beta". I purchased the console
just to play the game early (and in
hindsight I should have purchased it
sooner as I missed out on goodies from
participating in the closed beta). After
the initial euphoria of finally diving
in to the western release of the game
I've been waiting for since July of
2012, my mood took a melancholic turn as
the realization of how lonely the
experience was began to set in.
In the past, releases like this used to
be coordinated hype trains of the squad
coming together, whether it was a new
Diablo, Smash Bros, the latest WoW
expansion, and others. With the passing
of time and the inevitable diverging of
the paths it brings, I began to wonder
if this is what things would be like
forevermore. However, my brother was
quick to remind me that the game was
still not "officially released", and
that the PC release hadn't even come
about just yet. This brought a little
optimism back into my outlook, as the
majority of the gang have gaming PCs,
but only two others had an XBOX One.
However, as I stated in my intital
devpost, this little website project is
more to serve the past than the future,
so I present to you the next little
piece of the XBAND timeline.
The
Golden Age: I had a lot
of fun reminiscing about this time
period, but I found it much more
difficult to "put to paper" than the
Platinum Age. My memory isn't what it
used to be, and parodixcally it seems
that the closer I get to the present the
less I remember. Thus I would like to
extend an invitation to all those
involved in that era (and others) to
come forward with stories that I may
have forgotten. I want this to be a
"living" record of things, to be edited
and updated as necessary to get as full
an accounting of XBAND memories as
possible. You can click on this link
to read what I have so far.
2020 seems to
be off to a rough start, and I hope we
all make it through safe to see whether
a course-correct occurs (or not).
